My Freightliner has erratic issues with gauges, and the accelerator pedal doesn't work.
The CPC4 which is located behind the center of the dash, is the central gateway computer module that redirects all network traffic. That includes the instrument cluster as well as the accelerator pedal.
In other instances the truck won't even start, however, the most common failures include a failed throttle control and loss of communication with the instrument cluster which prevents the gauges from working.
