# If the original ECU has a data issue/malfunction, will that impact the ECU Cloning service or it doesn't matter?

When transferring the data, unless the microprocessor is physically damaged we check the integrity of the software and firmware prior to cloning it over. Most of the time it’s hardware failure somewhere on the ECU that’s causing the issue, however, if the brain is still good we can clone that portion of the ECU over.
