Why do BMW and Mini Cooper's require a soft battery reset instead of a hard reset?
The reason why we don't recommend a full hard battery reset is because BMWs and Mini Coopers have a specific order in which battery terminals are disconnected. If done incorrectly it may cause additional hardware failure or blow additional fuses. This is why on FRMs (footwell modules) we print out and attach a disclaimer to the unit itself that it's best simply to re-install the refurbished module without disconnecting the battery at all upon removal or reinstallation.
