Treadmill Belt Won’t Move After Power-Up

Answer: A dead motor-drive stage on the control board can’t deliver DC to the drive motor. Send your board to UpFix for repair and save up to 80 %.

Quick take: Console lights but the walking belt sits still? Your motor-control board (MCB) probably isn’t delivering DC voltage to the drive motor.

Why it happens

Inside every treadmill is an H-bridge made of large power transistors (IGBTs or MOSFETs). A spike, overheating, or even a static jolt can short one of those devices. The console still lights up because the low-voltage electronics live on a different section of the board, yet no torque reaches the motor.

DIY diagnostics

  1. Push-test: With power ON, firmly push the belt. If it coasts but does not self-propel, the drive motor is healthy and the fault is upstream.

  2. Motor leads: Carefully check for DC voltage on the two large wires leading to the motor (use a multimeter while someone presses “Start”). Anything under 40 V DC on a 120 V treadmill at low speed is suspect.

  3. Fuse & relay: Visually inspect the MCB for a blown glass fuse or a relay that never clicks.

Safety tip: Unplug the unit before removing the shroud. Capacitors inside can store lethal energy proceed only if you’re trained.

How UpFix solves it

  • Component-level rebuild: We desolder all damaged IGBTs, drivers, and relays, then install OEM-grade replacements rated for at least 20 A continuous.

  • Thermal upgrades: Fresh silicone pads, high-temp solder, and added heatsink compound keep junction temps 10 °C cooler.

  • Full-load test: Each repaired board runs on our dynamometer at 0–12 mph under a 250 lb simulated load for 15 minutes.

Prevent it next time

Keep the belt lubricated and correctly tensioned, an overstressed motor claws extra current from the board and shortens its life.
