How to Replace Range/Stove/Oven Coil Surface Element?

  1. Shut off power:
Turn off the power to the range by flipping the circuit breaker or unplugging the power cord to prevent electric shock during replacement.

  2. Remove control knob:
Gently wiggle and lift the control knob off the stem. Set the knobs aside so they can be replaced in the correct positions.

  3. Loosen mounting screws:
Using a nut driver or wrench, loosen the mounting screws or nuts securing the coil element in place. There may be one in each corner.

  4. Disconnect wire leads:
Use pliers or a flathead screwdriver to release the terminals from the coil, one at a time. Note or photograph the positions beforehand to ensure correct reassembly.

  5. Remove the old coil element:
Lift out the old coil element. It may take some wiggling to detach it fully from the mounts. Check the condition of the mounts and replace them if they are corroded.

  6. Install the new coil element:
Set the new coil element in position, lining up the mounting holes and feeding the wire leads through the openings or channels.

  7. Secure the coil element:
Tighten the mounting hardware to securely affix the coil. Reattach the wire terminals by squeezing them with pliers to lock them in place.

  8. Replace the control knob:
Slip the control knob over the stem, aligning the flat edge.

  9. Restore power and test:
Turn the power back on and test the range and coil to ensure proper heating function. The replacement is now complete!

By following these steps, you can effectively replace the coil surface element in your range or stove, ensuring safe and proper operation.

Most Common Solution

Begin by ensuring that the element is properly inserted into the socket. Then, carefully examine the burner for any signs of damage. If damage is detected, it is recommended to replace the burner. Lastly, utilize a multimeter to test if there is a continuous flow of electricity through the element. If there is no continuity, it is advised to replace the element. Always adhere to safety precautions when working with appliances, such as ensuring the power is switched off before handling any wires. By ensuring the element is securely inserted, conducting tests, and replacing any damaged components, you can effectively resolve issues with your appliance.
