When we receive any pair of ECUs or PCMs, first we inquire what they're here for and see if each one was appropriately labeled (original vs replacement) along with the VIN of the vehicle. Once we have that, we then confirm that the replacement ECU/PCM is a suitable replacement for the original. If all the questions were answered when ordering the this cloning service, we will confirm the codes/issues on the original and then proceed to clone. We highly recommend backing up any tunes currently stored on the ECU/PCM. If it was tuned by a company or individual, they should be able to provide the original files as well. Anything helps so if you have those files, please send them over to us. As for the cloning process, if the original ECU/PCM went bad because of a bad tune which caused the computer to fail, placing that said file on a replacement isn't a guarantee that it'll work any better or be more reliable. By nature, a tune typically is of a performance enhancing nature meaning pushing the ECU and its computer closer to its limits. If you know your ECU/PCM has a tune, please let us know so we can determine if the cloning service would be of any help to you. There are some alternatives where we simply reprogram the replacement ECU/PCM to your VIN so that it can start and operate the vehicle without having a tune file on it.
